4G Is Now Available In 15 478 Settlements Of Ukraine: Latest Updates

16.05.2020 10:32:00
Until May 1, 4G is available in 15,478 settlements of Ukraine, which is more than half of the total number of settlements. 82% of the population lives in this area. The covered area currently consists mainly of large and medium-sized cities and towns. In general, mobile high-speed Internet has not yet reached small settlements.

The gradual deployment of mobile operators' networks in the 900 MHz band will solve this situation. It allows covering a much larger area than higher ranges using one base station.

There are recent updates:
  • Vodafone Ukraine, Kyivstar, and Lifecell received technology-neutral 4G licenses in the 800-900 MHz band.
  • The Cabinet of Ministers has made changes to the Plan for the Use of the Radio Frequency Resource of Ukraine concerning the development of the 4G network.
  • The fee for issuing licenses for the use of radiofrequency resources has been reduced.
In July 2020, the three largest Ukrainian operators will start operating 4G in the 800-900 MHz band. This process starts in the western regions. According to the estimates of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, at the beginning of 2021 88% of the population will have access to 4G, and in July 2022 the value will increase to 95%.
