4G Internet Becomes More Accessible In Ukraine

18.03.2020 18:28:00
In February, the national telecom regulator gave permission to the three largest mobile operators in Ukraine for 4G early implementation. Now Vodafone Ukraine, Kyivstar, and Lifecell are one step closer to the introduction of high-speed mobile Internet in all parts of the country.

For the people, license for radiofrequency resource exploitation in the 800-900 MHz ranges, means that the Internet will work not only in large cities but also in towns and villages. Under the terms of the licenses, operators must provide abonents the possibility to use 4G technology. It should be done for 24 months in each community with a population of over 2,000 people if at least 90% of the population of Ukraine is covered, including the international roads and national highways.

All this is the result of the government agencies' and operators' cooperation which began with the Presidential Decree "On some measures improving access to the mobile Internet" from July 2019. The government has helped reach a consensus on frequency allocation between leading mobile operators.

While building a 4G network, operators will also increase their regular mobile coverage. This is important because there are still many places in Ukraine without quality mobile communication.

The process will begin on July 1 in the western regions of Ukraine. It is expected that by the end of 2020 4G coverage of each operator will exceed 85%, and in two and a half years high-speed mobile Internet will be able to use more than 90% of the population.
